Cast Your Line, Test Your Skills

See why our cobia fishing charters are a top choice for visitors in Hatteras, NC

If you’re up for a thrilling challenge, our Cobia Sightcasting Trip is an experience you won’t want to miss. This adventure takes place in the beautiful waters of Hatteras, NC, where clear skies, warm waters and calm conditions come together to create the perfect setting for sight fishing. Using bucktails from our 40-foot-high tuna tower, you’ll have a bird’s-eye view as we search for these prized fish. At Free Agent Sportfishing, we’ve been the go-to source for cobia fishing charters for over 43 years.

This is a full-day excursion, so make sure you bring your sunscreen. We can keep up to four cobia per boat, assuming they meet the minimum 36-inch fork length.

Drop a line in the perfect spot

Sight-casting for cobia is similar to deer hunting from a tree stand. We’ll scan the waters from our tuna tower, looking for cobia swimming near the surface. You’ll spot them first, then cast your line to see if you can get a bite. The conditions have to be just right with clear water and sunny skies, so May through June is the perfect time of year.

Here’s what you can expect during your day on the water:

  • Trolling for action: While searching for cobia, we’ll troll for Spanish mackerel and bluefish, keeping the excitement high throughout the day.
  • Big red and black drum: Encounter massive schools of big red and black drum, perfect for sight-casting with bucktails.
  • Backup plans: If conditions aren’t ideal for sight-casting, we’ll switch to drifting or anchoring with bait, making sure there’s always a chance for a great catch.
