  • Free Agent Cooler Boat Policy

    The only coolers you are allowed to bring aboard are the ones with your beverages and food. Due to limited space, everyone is NOT ALLOWED to have their own personal cooler to put their fish. All fish go into the fish box on the stern. Thanks in advance!

  • Where are Hatteras fishing boats located?

    Most fishing charters operate out of docks. These docks often provide, snacks, beverages, restaurants and services for cleaning fish after they’re caught. The Free Agent operates out of TEACH’S LAIR MARINA in Hatteras, NC.

  • What is the difference between inshore and offshore?

    Inshore fishing charters tend to troll calmer waters that are closer to the island. The trips usually fish with lighter tackle and the fish are generally smaller than those caught during offshore fishing trips. Offshore fishing charters, by contrast, troll much deeper water that can be a little more rough depending on the weather. During offshore trips, you can expect to catch larger fish.

  • How many people can fish on a charter?

    Six people are allowed aboard the Free Agent for a fishing trip.

  • Are your charters family friendly?

    Absolutely! We offer a variety of trips for families and seasoned anglers alike!

  • Do we get to keep the fish we catch?

    Absolutely! Better yet, you can even have the fish cleaned, filleted and prepared for cooking at Teach’s Lair for an additional fee! However, keep in mind that the fish must meet certain requirements depending on their size and the season of fishing.

  • Do we need fishing licenses?

    You do not need fishing licenses since you will be covered by an umbrella fishing license purchased by the Free Agent.

  • What kind of fish can we catch?

    There’s a long list of fish you can catch in Hatteras, NC. However, the type of fish will depend on the season. Some common fish include Spanish Mackeral, Bluefish, Flounder, Sea Mullets, Croakers, Spots, Trout, Red Drum, Cobia, Triggerfish, Seabass, Amberjacks, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Almaco, Amberjacks and Sharks.

  • What do we need to bring on our trip?

    You’ll need to bring your own food, drinks and sunscreen. We will supply ice, fishing rods, fishing reels and all the other gear, bait and tackle.


    There is an ABC store (liquor store) located in Buxton, NC and it’s open from 10:00am – 9:00pm Monday-Saturday. Please note that stores and the marina can not sell beer until 7:00am Monday-Saturday and not until 10:00am on Sundays.


    Note: while in Hatteras, be sure to visit the “Village Red & White” market (the only full-service grocery store on the island). They have all your food, wine and beer needs and they also make premade sandwiches for your trip if you’d like them. The store is located at 57196 Kohler Drive in downtown Hatteras—about 3/10’s of a mile from Oden’s Dock.



  • What is Free Agent’s refund policy?

    We offer a 100% refund if you cancel your charter 48-hours prior departure or if we cancel the charter due to weather related issues. Within 48-hours the charter is non-refundable. Unfortunately, there are no refunds if we do not catch fish on your charter.
